Week 1 - Managing feelings and behaviour

Four activities to deliver across the week on a day and time to suit you.

GOAL Children to be able to identify, recognise and name basic emotions such as happiness, sadness and anger.


YOU NEED

 

 

Whole Class Activity   1) Story

  • Select a book from our Early Years Book List or one of your own that introduces the wide variety of feelings we all experience.
  • Read the book at the beginning of the week to the whole class and allow time for interactive reading and discussion of the book. 
  • Focus the discussion on labelling feelings words.

Whole Class Activity   2) Story Extension

  • To further extend and develop the learning from the story, prepare, introduce and include a story extension activity into wider provision.

Small Group Activity    3) Box of Feelings

  • A throwing game with boxes showing different emotions as the targets.
  • Read through the Small Group Activity Card to support with preparation and delivery of this small group activity.

Small Group Activity    4) Music and Movement

  • Use music to generate emotions for discussion and promote self-expression through movement.
  • Read through the Small Group Activity Card to support with preparation and delivery of this small group activity.
